Cole Smith

Cole is an Australian film Director, Producer, and Screenwriter. Born in Tasmania, Cole developed an early interest in storytelling and stills photography, which later expanded into filmmaking through experimentation with cameras and editing software. After persuading his teachers to allow him to submit video-based assignments throughout high school, Cole relocated to Melbourne at nineteen to pursue formal film education, graduating from Swinburne University of Technology in 2021.

While at university, Cole developed a strong interest in analytical psychology, which would inform his explorations of the psyche and social structures across his short films, music videos, and experimental projects. In parallel, he maintained a stills photography practice and cultivated an online audience through social media.

Following graduation, Cole began producing his first feature film, CHIPPED, financed through his photography audience and online presence. The film is a horror / sci-fi work examining technological reliance, human vulnerability, and the consequences of creating something smarter than ourselves.

During post-production on CHIPPED, which is targeting a 2026 release, Cole continued to explore human frailty through repression, obsession, and spiritual dislocation in subsequent spec scripts, and he is now currently developing his next feature.
