David is a British/Irish multiple award-winning playwright and screenwriter. He has numerous scripts in various stages of production – with numerous IMDb and stage credits to his name. David writes across genres – his screenplays have received international recognition – His most recent work, ’Betty’: a biopic of Betty Cook, the first female powerboating US and World Champion, which is currently in pre-production.
He like writing drama, comedy and sometimes a mixture of both – he is also collaborative – he loves the creative process of working with producers and actors and is flexible across media – happy working for film, TV or stage. He loves to write alone or as part of a collaboration – he firmly believes that when it comes to filmmaking, writing is just one layer – you add all the creative processes and then the actors, and magic happens – so he is happy writing to someone else’s vision, or creating his own work from scratch – his only issue is being able to write down all the ideas he has.
He is also comfortable writing to a specific budget – David is your man – his existing available scripts are across the budget spectrum – from the British historical Viking invasion drama, ‘Cadeby’, to character driven indie moves, such as ‘Blind-Sighted’, the story of a young, blind runner and ‘Wrathwood’, a low budget horror classic – all three have won numerous awards.
He has also co-written numerous screenplays in the US, such as ‘Suspect’ and ‘Merry Bloody Christmas’ – a classic retro 80’s horror – think Gremlins with human sized zombie crabs – one of his favourite scripts.
What binds all of David’s scripts together is his character work and dialogue – his characters are diverse, well researched and real – he likes to write films that get powerful audience reactions – a laugh, a few tears or even a scare jump of two – his influences range from Braveheart, Aliens and The Godfather trilogy through to Planes Trains and Automobiles.
He recent play, the comedy-drama ‘Past Tents’ (which he also starred in), set on a campsite and deals with male mental health and suicide, also won numerous writing awards – in one case beating Neil Gaiman to Best Writing at the Cormac Richards stage awards! David believes that comedies should make you laugh, punch you in the stomach then make you laugh again.
David also recently wrote and sold 3 TV series, and has others ready to be pitched as we speak.
If a versatile, flexible, character driven script is what you need, whatever the budget or genre, David is whop you need.
